Her most well-known work is Battery (written from 1996 to 2005), a six-volume series about a high school baseball club. She has written dozens of children’s novels and period pieces since then, and is still an active novelist. ![]() While she never became a comic artist, she published her first novel, Hotarukan Monogatari, in 1991 at age 37 after working as an elementary school teacher, getting married, and staying home to raise her children. As a young adult she wanted to tell stories through drawing comics, and she graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo with a Bachelor of Letters degree. ![]() ![]() When she was young, she enjoyed reading Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes, and Ellery Queen, and, inspired by those authors, started to create stories of her own.
